Influenced by eco-feminism and body politics, her work often begins with natural elements such as rope, stones, and bamboo. Merging Eastern corporeal aesthetics with contemporary performance vocabularies, Hanyu creates sensory experiences defined by slow, restrained tension. Through performance and installation, she reveals subtle dialogues between the body and nature, inviting emotional resonance and philosophical reflection on states of connection. She also engages with rope bondage as a healing medium—one that opens up conversations between individual psychological experiences and socially constructed norms.
Hanyu frequently collaborates with community-based art platforms and cross-cultural contexts, aiming to amplify the visibility of queer bodies and shift rope bondage from private settings into public discourse—as a form of social, artistic, and political expression.
